My Story
Hi, my name is Joi [Joey]. I’ve been filming and editing videos since high school (2007) — mostly for school projects or just for fun. Back then, I was into C-Walking, a type of foot dancing, and that’s what got me curious about filming and editing in the first place.
In 2010, I was invited to Crossroads Christian Center, a church in Daly City — and funny enough, that’s actually where I met my wife, on my 17th birthday. My youth pastor would always ask me to edit videos, manage the website… basically anything media-related. My wife got involved too, and we ended up being paired to lead our youth group’s Media Team. I went on to graduate as a licensed vocational nurse, but I eventually realized that wasn’t where I was meant to be — even though my whole family’s in the medical field (Filipino culture, you feel me? ✌🏽👍🏽).
In 2016, a close friend from church asked me to shoot a wedding video for him. I said yes — and I ended up loving the whole experience. From getting ready, to the ceremony, the Word, the vows, the ring exchange, the first kiss, all the way to the reception… it gave me all the feels. Pure joy. Every wedding since then has still given me that same feeling.
I proposed to my wife on May 11, 2019, and we got married on September 28, 2020. One thing I’m so thankful for is investing in photo and video for our wedding. Now I can relive those moments anytime — and I can’t wait to show our future kids the best day of our lives.
Today, my wife and I are still serving at Crossroads. In 2018, our Senior Pastor asked us to step into the role of Media Directors where we lead and inspire a team of creative volunteers through the production of our church services.
